The best winter getaway in Northern New South Wales - Coramba
Sometimes you just want to hear cows mooing and take a walk in the morning fog with a cup of hot tea.
When looking for a little winter getaway last year we wanted a simple place, nothing fancy, we wanted a rustic, country experience. If you could say we were looking for one thing it was peace. This little getaway in Coramba, Northern New South Wales gave us what we were looking for. This little country abode ticked all the boxes, fireplace, large outdoor swing for the kids, surrounded by cow paddocks, a creek to explore, an outdoor bathtub that overlooked the sunset, and lots of space for us to roam about.
It’s nothing like some fresh air for a photographer to get the creative juices flowing. I found the first thing I wanted to do was to pick up my camera and just capture these fun little moments we were having.
We woke with the morning light sparkling on the dewy covered greenery, fog flowing through the hills, and my favourite, cows mooing, something that took me back to my childhood growing up on a hobby farm in far north Queensland.
The kids will say the swing was the highlight, the first thing in the morning they got their shoes and beanies on and climbed over the rustic wooden fence to start their morning activity of swinging. You wouldn’t think a 10 and 8 year old would be so happy about a swing but this swing wasn’t just any old swing. It overlooked mountains and trees, and was attached to such a massive tree that when swinging they looked like they were disappearing off into the sunset.
The kids and I enjoyed sunset baths on the verandah, they had one last swing and then we took off to the local Coramba Hotel for dinner. This pub had a fun atmosphere with live music, fire pits to help you warm up and a large grass area for the kids to enjoy a game of soccer.
Coramba is situated inland from Coffs Harbour, about a 15-20 minute drive. We have a favourite area north of Coffs Harbour called Emerald Beach, so we took off after breakfast one morning and my husband went for a surf while the kids and I explored the Kangaroo filled hills surrounding the beach. We finished the day with a delicious meal at Lime Mexican in Sawtell and headed home to enjoy cozying around the fire, and for the first time ever we all fell asleep cuddling on the couch while watching the embers crackle in the fireplace. My heart was full, and peace was within.
If you want a little getaway where you are surrounded by nature and is the perfect place to connect with your family, head to Coramba, you really won’t be disappointed.
